
Women of Ohio is delighted to announce a special evening at the Mercantile Library in Cincinnati on Tuesday, 18 August at 6.30 p.m.
This event celebrates the lives, stories and achievements of Ohio women through poetry, art and conversation. Bringing together writers, artists and community members from across the state, the project explores the many ways women have shaped Ohio’s cultural landscape.
During the evening, visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about the project, hear readings inspired by remarkable Ohio women, and meet fellow readers, writers and artists.
INFORMATION ON THE PROJECT FROM ZOË BRIGLEY
Zoë Brigley is a Welsh-American poet, editor and educator, and the founder and director of Women of Ohio. She is the author of several poetry collections and serves as Poetry Editor of Poetry Wales. Brigley teaches at The Ohio State University and has spent many years building literary communities in both Wales and Ohio. Through Women of Ohio, she has brought together poets, artists and community members from across the state to celebrate the lives and achievements of remarkable Ohio women through poetry, visual art and public events. During the evening, Brigley will speak about the origins of the project, share some of its discoveries, and discuss ways for writers, artists and supporters to become involved in future events and publications.
DIANE CALLAHAN (QUOTIDIAN WRITER)
Diane Callahan is a writer, editor and educator who is widely known online as Quotidian Writer. Through her writing , interviews and literary criticism, she explores literature, mythology, history and the creative process, building a large community of readers and writers across a range of platforms. At the Women of Ohio event, Callahan will share work inspired by the celebrated artist and designer Maya Lin and will speak about the importance of recovering and sharing women’s stories.
OPEN MIC
There will also be opportunities for audience participation. Open-mic slots are available for anyone wishing to share work inspired by Ohio women. If you would like to take part, please contact us at womenofohio@gmail.com.
